Windows 10: You've got another year
Your Windows 10 computer doesn't need replacing this month after all.
Lots of people have been planning around October 2026, when free security updates for Windows 10 were due to end. In June, Microsoft moved that date to 12 October 2027 for home computers enrolled in its Extended Security Updates scheme. If yours is already enrolled, you don't need to do anything. It's covered automatically.
To check, open Settings, then Update & Security, then Windows Update. If it says "Your PC is enrolled to get Extended Security Updates", you're fine. If you see an option to enrol instead, you can still join. It's free if you back up your settings to a Microsoft account, or you can use Microsoft Rewards points or pay a one-off fee.
That gives you a year to decide calmly. Upgrading to Windows 11 is one option, and a new computer is another. There's no need to rush into either.
